Working Groups

Our DE&I framework includes multiple target areas for developing solutions. To be impactful, we have initially selected three priority issues.

BIIG convenes leaders from across the bioscience community in working groups dedicated to developing DE&I solutions. The BIIG working groups, comprised of industry volunteers, will collectively set the scope of their work and agree clear deliverables for the DE&I solutions being targeted. Each workstream requires a wide range of perspectives, and we’re calling on people interested to advance DE&I to get involved.

Investor Interactions

Developing best practices related to the evaluation of investment opportunities, new company formation, and capital deployment by venture capital firms across the life sciences sector, such that it provides equal opportunity to founders, entrepreneurs and executives from underrepresented people. Increase VC firm diversity and make inclusion a strategic imperative as VCs exert influence upon the company building process.

Hiring and Onboarding

Hiring new employees remains one of the most potent ways to improve the diversity of any organization. The process of talent identification, candidate sourcing and hiring decision making, offers signifcant possibilities to introduce fully meritocratic candidate appointments and equal opportunities for all. These new employees must be set up for success through effective onboarding, integration and network development.

People Growth and Retention

Personal development is a critical compenent of the diveristy and inclusion solution. Once companies have been able to assemble a diverse workforce, they must also have effective process and systems that support sustained career growth, an inclusive culture where people feel they belong, and effective retention strategies for underrepresented employees.
